Redundant accounts in a Windows Domain are a major security risk in an organisation.  Redundant accounts can be either user or computer accounts which have not been logged on for a pre-determined number of days. Now a SERVICE with continuous reporting.

These accounts may be exploited by unauthorised users to gain access to the domain.  The covert channel which is created when creating a new user account without ensuring that it is used is Time of Check/Time of Use (TOC/TOU).  This is exacerbated by assigning a known default password to the account.
To determine the last logon value of an account, all domain controllers have to be scanned and the data collated in a central database.  This information is stored in a file format easy accessible by spreadsheet applications.

Auditors would use a tool to scan your network and define all the security anomalies found pertaining to redundant users in a report.  For less than the cost of an hour of audit consulting time the DORMant tool allow you to perform this as often as required.

Corporate Governance and Compliance requires management to ensure that IT Risks are adequately managed.  Empower operational support and security management to review and manage redundant accounts.  An audit trail  to prove that regular reviews are taking place can be printed for lodging with risk management.
